‘Spencer & Locke’ comic optioned by Prime Universe Films

Spencer and Locke

Action Lab Entertainment’s comic series SPENCER & LOCKE, from writer David Pepose and artist Jorge Santiago, Jr., has been optioned for film by Hitman film producer Adrian Askarieh and his company Prime Universe Films.

Pitched as Calvin & Hobbes meets Sin City, the series follows Detective Locke, who once had an imaginary series of adventures with his plush panther Spencer as a child. Yet the carefree days never really lasted, and a series of harsh realities growing up darkened his worldview. However, imaginary friend Spencer has not left his side, and now Locke solves crimes alongside his lifelong partner. When an incredibly personal case presents itself, Locke has to unpick some old wounds in the process.

We reviewed the first issue back in April, describing it as “one of the most gripping debuts of the year.” We can see how the fusion of nostalgic hat-tipping and gritty noir will work on screen. You can get a sense of that visual style in the comic’s trailer below.

SPENCER & LOCKE #4, which concludes the series’ action-packed storyline, will be available at comic shops and digital devices Wednesday, July 19
