The absolutely bonkers looking DEATH ROW FAMILY (全員死刑) has had a Japanese trailer floating around for a few weeks. Now Nikkatsu has released an English subtitled version of the trailer online. It still looks bonkers.
Based on the non-fiction novel by Tomohiko Suzuki, it follows Takanori (Shotaro Mamiya), the son of a yakuza boss who spent several years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. After he teams up to rob a wealthy family who runs a loan shark operation, a killing begets more violence and death for the ‘family.’
Director/writer Yuki Kobayashi is known for last year’s Kamikaze Cowboy, following a group who buys a scooter and gets drawn into a dark world. This is his second film, and is produced for the infamous Nikkatsu by the legendary Yoshihiro Nishimura (Mutant Girls Squad, Meatball Machine Kodoku).
DEATH ROW FAMILY is released in Japan on 18 November 2017, and the existence of an English trailer is indicative that it may get a wider release outside of Japan. In fact, it is making it’s world premiere on 14 September 2017 in France at the L’Étrange Festival.
