Netflix sets global date for Taiwan’s ‘Classmates Minus’

Classmates Minus

The winner of the Audience Award at last year’s Golden Horse Film Festival is coming to homes across the world. Netflix announced CLASSMATES MINUS (同學麥娜絲) will hit the streamer on 20 February 2021.

It’s the second narrative feature from Huang Hsin-yao, best known for the award-winning The Great Buddha+ and his documentaries. Huang continues to use his observational narration, taking a look at his four protagonists as they express their views on the meaning of life through candid conversations.

The plot unfolds with four high school friends catching up with each other at a bubble tea shop. The men are now in their forties, but they still grapple with challenges in life.

The film stars Cheng Jen-shuo, Liu Kuan-ting, Best Supporting Actor winner Lin Yu-chih (aka Na Dou), and Shih Ming-shuai. It’s produced by Chung Mong-hong, director of A Sun.

CLASSMATES MINUS continues a strong push of Asian cinema on the streaming giant. This year kicked off with South Korea’s What Happened to Mr. Cha? We’ve also seen Indonesia’s The Heartbreak Club and next week’s June & Kopi.
