Guardians of the Galaxy Announced for 2014 Plus Concept Art

At the Iron Man 3 panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios revealed that the long-rumoured Guardians of the Galaxy film would be go for launch as the 1 August 2014 release from Disney.

From the concept art (below), the line-up has been revealed to be Star-Lord, Draxx the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket Raccoon and Gamorra.

This move has been long-rumoured, especially after the appearance of (SPOILERS!) Thanos during the end-credits of The Avengers.

  • Comic-Con: Marvel Unveils New Armour for Iron Man 3

Comic-Con: Marvel Unveils New Armour for Iron Man 3

Marvel has unveiled the unusual Mark VIII  armour that will appear in the upcoming Iron Man 3. Tony Stark seems to be all about the ba-bling with a largely gold-plated armour, which if previous concept art is to be believed, will be part of the Extremis suit that is actually a part of Stark himself. The official spiel from Marvel reads as follows: Fans walking by the Marvel Booth (#2329) at San Diego Comic-Con will get a special treat today, as we give you the first look at the next evolution of Tony Stark’s signature armor!

The gold plating doesn’t read incredibly well in these still images, looking far too gold for our tastes. However, it may read well in the motion pictures, and there’s a good chance that this will be seen moving at the speed of light, rather than just rotating on a platform at a comic convention. Unless this film takes a very strange turn. Iron Man 3 is scheduled for 3 May 2013, and is currently filming.

New Clip, TV Spot and Promo Photos from CW’s Arrow

The pilot episode of Arrow has already been screened for people attending San Diego Comic-Con, but the official Facebook page of the show has released some new images to promote the series.

Bleeding Cool has also posted a new clip and TV spot from the show, demonstrating just how action-packed and gritty this take on the classic DC Comics character Green Arrow is going to be. Not entirely sure how we feel about Ollie killing people yet, but we’ll reserve judgment until it is placed in context.

Arrow will debut in the US on Wednesday 10 October 2012 at 8/7c.

  • Giant Banner for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Giant Banner for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

EW has revealed a massive new banner for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, highlighting a whole series of scenes from the classic J.R.R. Tolkien tale.

What most have picked up on is the penultimate panel featuring Beorn, the woodsman who has the ability to turn into a bear. Here he seems to be deep into conversation with Gandalf. We also get an idea of how much of The Hobbit will be covered in the first film, with The Hobbit: There and Back Again being the second half of Peter Jackson’s new set of films. From this point forward, this may be our most anticipated film of the year.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released on 26 December 2012 in Australia from Roadshow. The film will debut in the US on 14 December 2012.

It may look really tiny, but click the image below to enlarge (It’s actually HUGE!)

  • Poster Revealed for 7th Possible Worlds Canadian Film Festival

Poster Revealed for 7th Possible Worlds Canadian Film Festival

The full program launched last week for Possible Worlds, the 7th Canadian Film Festival in Australia. Now thanks to the official site, we have been given a first look at their festival poster.

With the tagline “It ain’t Hollywood!”, a white clad animal person emerges from a phone booth, the glasses from his secret identity sitting idly on the footpath. The poster was designed by Alexandra De Bonis and photographed by Matthew Lahoud. The site also reliably informs us that the model is the festival’s marketing and sponsorship manager Nick Jarvis. So his secret is actually out, exposing him to all manner of attacks from his enemies and ill-wishers. Stay the course, you shiny white knight of quality cinema!

The Festival will showcase 20 of the best new Canadian feature films at Dendy Opera Quays and Dendy Newtown from 13th to 19th August 2012. Selected titles will also screen at the University of Wollongong and the ARC cinema in Canberra.
