  • D23 Expo: Disney-Pixar announces 2 new films, poster for ‘Tangled Ever After’

D23 Expo: Disney-Pixar announces 2 new films, poster for ‘Tangled Ever After’

A big day of news at the D23 Expo as Disney-Pixar announced details on two forthcoming feature films.

The first of these, presented cheekily as The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs, proposes that the evolution-changing asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs actually missed the Earth, and dinosaurs still exist and continue to evolve. Directed by Bob Peterson (Up), the film is due for a release in the holiday season of 2013.

The summer 2014 film, using the working title of The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind, was thinner on plot details, but it was hinted that Pete Docter (Up, Monsters Inc) would be involved. This is undoubtedly the mystery Pixar film the studio announced for May 30, 2014 in a press release earlier this month.

The next film from the studio will be Brave (22 June 2012), followed by the Monsters Inc. prequel Monsters University (21 June 2013).

    Tangled Ever After

In other news, Disney also revealed the poster for the upcoming Tangled Ever After,  a short film from Tangled directors  Nathan  Greno and Byron Howard. Plot details were scarce, but the US should see this one on the Disney Channel in “Spring 2012” (Source: /Film). That’s the second quater for those of us in the southern hemisphere.

The D23 Expo runs from 19 to 21 August, and it is expected that news on The Avengers, now owned by Disney as part of their Marvel Comics purchase, will be unveiled.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: New posters scan Cumberbatch and Strong

Another day, another batch of posters from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. This time out, it is Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong who get encoded.

Using the same digital coding imagery as the first poster of  Gary Oldman, and the subsequent batch with Colin Firth and Tom Hardy, these are still incredibly cool posters. The film is based on the John Le Carre novel of the same name, last filmed in 1979 as a TV mini-series with Alec Guinness. Set during the height of this Cold War, Gary Oldman will take on the role of George Smiley, who comes out of semi-retirement to hunt down a Russian agent.

  • The Amazing Spider-man: New costume images

The Amazing Spider-man: New costume images

Uriloki.org (via Latino Review) has posted two new publicity images of the webslinger posing from Marc Webb’s forthcoming The Amazing Spider-man.

They are fairly familiar, except for that giant watermark through the middle, and it is good to see that Spidey has some decent grip on his feet. If he is going to continue hanging out in the rain, there’s always the potential to slip. Safety first and all that. Now all he needs to do is worry about that whole breathing thing through a basketball fabric. And chafing: nasty, nasty chafing.

We also recently posting some other official publicity shots from the film. We’ll re-post these ones here once they are officially released by Sony.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol reveals new image

Paramount has released a new publicity shot of Tom Cruise in the forthcoming Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Directed by Brad Bird (RatatouilleThe Incredibles), Simon Pegg, Josh Holloway, Michael Nyqvist and Jeremy Renner star alongside Cruise. Details of the plot remain reasonably under wraps, as one would expect from anything that J.J. Abrams has anything to do with, but the trailer released a few months back gives us a hint.

The photo looks suitably action packed. Despite this, it still has Tom Cruise in it. What is he thinking? Why is he wearing a hoodie? Does he know something has just blown up behind him? All these questions will be answered in the movie, we assume.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is due for release in Australia on 15 December 2011 from Paramount.

  • Red Tails: Second Trailer and poster for George Lucas film

Red Tails: Second Trailer and poster for George Lucas film

It has been a while since there has been legitimate reasons to be excited about some with George Lucas’ name attached to it, but the WWII dogfighting film Red Tails, directed by Anthony Hemingway (TV’s Treme, True Blood), may just remind us of why LucasFilm is one of the most famous production companies in the world. Now thanks to MTV, Red Tails has now added a second trailer with even more dogfighting and a brand new poster to boot.

Synopsis: 1944. As the war in Europe continues to take its toll on Allied forces, the Pentagon brass has no recourse but to consider unorthodox options – including the untried and untested African-American pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program. Just as the young Tuskegee men are on the brink of being shut down and shipped back home, they are given the ultimate chance to show their courage. Against all the odds, with something to prove and everything to lose, these intrepid young airmen take to the skies to fight for their country – and the fate of the free world.

  • New UK posters for Rise of the Planet of the Apes

New UK posters for Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Rise of the Planet of the Apes took us by surprise with its brilliance earlier in the month, and its success in the US and Australian box offices has been a comforting sign of good taste everywhere. It’s release this week in the UK has prompted the release of two timely posters, via Empire Online, that give a kind of Banksy vibe to the promotion.

With the trouble on the streets across Britain at the moment, we’re not entirely sure that these are appropriate, but as the troubles are (hopefully) subsiding, perhaps these will encourage people to embrace the collective experience of the cinema.

  • New images from ‘The Amazing Spider-man’

New images from ‘The Amazing Spider-man’

We’ve been posting pictures of Catwoman and Superman over the last few days, so it is only fair that these hi-res pictures from next year’s The Amazing Spider-man should find a spot as well.

These have been floating around for a few days now from Sony, but we couldn’t let the opportunity slide to put them up here. With shots of the web-shooters, Spidey himself, Denis Leary, Emma Stone, Martin Sheen and Sally Field as Uncle Ben and Aunt May respectively, this is shaping up to be a quality production.

What can we say? Our geek sense is tingling! ‘Nuff said.

  • First Look: Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

First Look: Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Warner has released the first official image of the Oscar-nominated actress Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, the latest addition to Christopher Nolan’s Batman universe for The Dark Knight Rises.

First question: where are the cat aspects to this Catwoman costume? Is she on her way to a 3D movie? Again, one could endlessly debate the virtues of a single still from a film that has only been in production for a few months, but this certainly is an intriguing take on the character that has been made famous by the likes of Eartha Kitt (the 1960s Batman TV series), Lee Meriweather (Batman – The Movie) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Batman Returns). Let’s just forget Halle Berry (Catwoman) for the time being, if we can.

At the end of the day, it’s Anne Hathaway in a skin-tight suit. On a bike. In googles. Is there anything about those last few words that we could possibly complain about? Bring it!
