The title of the third Wolverine movie has been revealed via the release of a new poster. Simply titled LOGAN, it confirms the release date of 3 March 2017 in the US. It’s slated for 2 March in Australia from Fox.
The poster below features a familiar clawed hand being held by a smaller child’s hand. Who is the kid? More to the point, the scarification of the wrist would suggest that Wolverine’s famed healing factor is perhaps no longer working. Many have suggested that this will follow the Old Man Logan comic book storyline, although Logan’s loss of his healing factor was definitely central to the Death of Wolverine arc in Marvel’s recent event. Either way, this is said to be actor Hugh Jackman’s swansong, his ninth and final time, so we might not be seeing this version of Wolverine much longer.
Director James Mangold has also released a script page via Twitter, confirming that the content of the film is going for a hard R-rating like its stablemate Deadpool.
The cast also includes Patrick Stewart, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez, and we expect to see more photos, footage, and a trailer imminently.
We wake up to the sad news that actor Gene Wilder has died at the age of 83. Te beloved comedian and dramatic actor is best known for his roles in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. He died at his home in Stamford, Connecticut as a result of complications with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Know for his collaborations with Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor, he made his own directorial debut with 1975’s The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother. Wilder continued appearing on screen up until the late 1990s, appearing as The Mock Turtle in a version of Alice in Wonderland and co-writer and starring in the intended franchise series The Lady in Question for television.
The posters below do no represent his entire body of work, but are presented here as a mixture of the wide variety of films that he starred in, directed or wrote over the course of decades in the industry.
The San Diego Comic-Con has unleashed a massive salvo of trailers and posters for upcoming Marvel/Netflix productions, including first looks at LUKE CAGE, IRON FIST and THE DEFENDERS.
To the strains of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya,” LUKE CAGE comes tearing onto the screen. Mike Colter, last see in Marvel’s Jessica Jones, leads the cast that also includes Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Frank Whaley as Rafael Scarfe, Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth, Theo Rossi as Shades, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, and of course, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple. It hits the streaming service on 30 September.
Next up is a trailer for IRON FIST, in which Danny Rand (Finn Jones) fights relentlessly to regain everything he’s lost in Marvel’s Iron Fist, coming soon to Netflix.
Then it all comes together in the very brief teaser trailer for THE DEFENDERS, uniting Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Featuring the voice of Scott Glenn as Stick, the visual montage is set to Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.”
Finally, it was also revealed that an inevitable third season of DAREDEVIL will make its way to the streaming service “soon,” although there is no indication of whether that will be before or after 2017’s THE DEFENDERS.
Following the Star Wars Celebration in the UK over the weekend, the poster for ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY was unveiled to the public. Due for release in Australia on 15 December 2016, the folks at Walt Disney Studios Australia have sent over the local one-sheet for the highly anticipated prequel film.
The brightly lit poster is a stark contrast with the doom and gloom that pervades most major events, although the shadow of the Death Star above the scene is more than enough foreboding for one A4 sized image. “Come and visit the sunny Empire,” would be an apt tagline were it not for the blaster fire.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, and with a screenplay by Chris Weitz (based on a story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta), the film stars Felicity Jones, alongside Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Australia’s Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Jonathan Aris.
Move over Mick Taylor: Australia has a new thing terrorising the local populace. Attendees of Oz Comic-Con and Supanova were treated to the big reveal of the creature in RED BILLABONGin June, and now the rest of the Australian public now get their first glimpse of the terrifying creature in the new trailer released today. The new Australian genre flick, from writer/director Luke Sparke, arrives in cinemas on 25 August 2016.
Starring Dan Ewing (Home and Away) and Tim Pocock (Dance Academy), RED BILLABONG is the first Australian film to feature a CGI character in a leading role. In the Australian Outback, two brothers discover old secrets and family lies. As their friends start to go missing they fear they are being stalked by someone, or something from their worst nightmares. But is it just a story? A legend? A hoax? Or is it real?
“I can’t recall a fully realized computer generated character as a ‘lead’ in an Australian film before. I don’t think it’s been attempted. Our VFX team will be working furiously all the way up to the cinema release. We also used so many practical effects, daring stunts and huge sets. There’s so much in the film that isn’t in the new trailer. There is still so much to reveal when you’re watching it!” says Sparke.
RED BILLABONG also stars Sophie Don, Jessica Green (Lightning Point), Ben Chisholm, John Reynolds, Emily Joy, James Straiton, Felix Williamson (Underbelly: Razor, The Great Gatsby) and Gregory Fryer (The Sapphires). The Queensland production company, SparkeFilms, has teamed up with distributor Pinnacle Films (Dallas Buyers Club, Predestination, Healing) and international sales agent, Arclight Films, who is handling sales on the project. Check out the trailer and poster below.
Disney has unveiled the first teaser poster for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, due out in cinemas in March 2017. Following in the footsteps of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent and The Jungle Book, the Bill Condon directed film casts Emma Watson, Luke Evans, Ewan McGregor, Dan Stevens and more in the re-imagining of their own 1991 animated film.
The teaser poster follows in the minimalist design of the Cinderella poster from last year’s live-action remake (pictured below), simply showing the rose that is at the focus of the story. From the 1991 film: “The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his twenty-first year. If he could learn to love another, and earn their love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time.”
We lost one of the cinematic greats this week, a veteran of almost half a century in the business. Here’s a visual farewell to ABBAS KIAROSTAMI.
Like most of the film loving world, we were saddened to hear of the loss of filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, who died this week at the age of 76. The Iranian director, writer, photographer and producer has made over 40 films since 1970, including shorts, documentaries and features. He is perhaps best known for his Koker trilogy (1987–94), consisting of Close-Up (1990), the Palme d’Or winning Taste of Cherry (1997) and The Wind Will Carry Us (1999).
His films were known not sure for their child protagonists, but for talking place largely in cars, most notably Ten (2010), shot through a dashboard mounted video camera, and more recent outings including Certified Copy (2010) and Like Someone In Love. An accomplished screenwriter, he also wrote films such as The White Balloon (1995) for Jafar Panahi. His films were sometimes deliberately impenetrable, using minimalism to either completely hold your attention. As we commented back in 2010, “Kiarostami is not interested in the ‘hows’ and whys’ necessarily, but rather what the conversation can reveal about a person.”
The posters below do no represent his entire body of work, but are presented here as a mixture of original, re-release, and international versions to demonstrate how his work translated across the globe.
