Teaser for Sion Sono’s The Land of Hope

The Land of Hope production posterAs Australian audiences patiently wait for Japanese filmmaker Sion Sono‘s Himizu to hit local screens, a teaser trailer has emerged (via Wildgrounds) for his thematic follow-up, The Land of Hope.

The cult director is best known for his art work, poetry and film such as Guilty of Romance, Cold Fish and Love Exposure. With Himuzu, he delivered a devastating look at the effects of the March 2011 disasters that recently befell Japan. The Land of Hope (希望の国) appears to take a similar theme, but infuses it with a sense of hope. The film concentrates on a group of people in a quake ravaged neighbourhood who hold onto their love despite the tragedy.

The film only began shooting in January 2012, and was completed last month! Forming the middle part of a brave trilogy exploring the aftermath of the quake and subsequent tsunami, the impressive cast includes veteran actors Isao NatsuyagiNaoko OtaniJun Murakami and Sono regular Megumi Kagurazaka.

The Land of Hope is due for release in Japan in “Autumn 2012”.

  • New Trailer for Gangster Squad

    New Trailer for Gangster Squad

Roadshow Films has sent over the latest trailer for Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad, starring Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone and Sean Penn!

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.

Gangster Squad is released in Australia in October from Roadshow Films.

Determined to change her fate, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane), unleashing chaos in the kingdom. When she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters), she is granted an ill-fated wish and the ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her resources—including her mischievous triplet brothers—to undo a beastly curse and discover the meaning of true bravery. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, “Brave” is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humour.

First Look at Beware the Batman in New Teaser Trailer

Beware the Batman posterCartoon Network (via Comic Vine) has debuted the new trailer for Beware the Batman, the first CGI animated Batman series. Here’s the trailer and synopsis, although we aren’t convinced by the look of the show, just as we have reservations about Green Lantern: The Animated Series.

Teaser Trailer and Poster for Rian Johnson’s Looper

Looper, the highly anticipated new film from Rian Johnson (Brick, The Brothers Bloom) now has a teaser trailer, and it is actually a trailer. The time-travel action film once again sees Bruce Willis hurling through time looking for twelve monkeys. All of that is true, but for the monkeys. Monkeys are cool though, and we hope there is a monkey in this film.

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.

Looper is released in the US on 28 September 2012 and 11 October 2012 in Australia from Roadshow.
