First Clip from The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises - A Fire Will Rise - International PosterIt’s just over a week to go until The Dark Knight Rises hits cinemas, and Jimmy Kimmel Live (via CBM) has given us a first look at a clip from the film, featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Blake, and Gary Oldman returning as Commissioner Gordon.

There are only minor spoilers in the clip, in that it features a scene from the film! Otherwise, it creates more mystery than giving anything away.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ The Dark Knight Rises is the conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, and will star Christian Bale, new cast members Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and returning cast Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman.

The Dark Knight Rises is released on 19 July 2012 in Australia from Roadshow.

  • Prometheus Viral Video Found in Credits

Prometheus Viral Video Found in Credits

MovieViral has found a clue in the credits of Prometheus. Leading to a website called www.whatis101112.com, a spinning copy of  Friedrich Nietzsche’s Thus Spoke Zarathustra can be found, along with the Wikipedia text below. After a moment, a video appears of Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland, similar to the TED Talk released in February.

Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None is a philosophical novel by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, composed in four parts between 1883 and 1885. Much of the work deals with ideas such as the “eternal recurrence of the same”, the parable on the “death of God”, and the “prophecy” of the Übermensch, which were first introduced in The Gay Science.

Given that we already had issues with Prometheus, is this an attempt to justify some of the loose narrative threads off-screen? Can we expect more movies to continue once they’ve left theatres. Judging from the date of the URL, the fictional start of Weyland Industries, we can expect more of this through to at least October, when we will presumably have something starting to resemble a Blu-ray forthcoming.

DC Reveals Before Watchmen TV Commercial

Before Watchmen: Minutemen CoverBefore Watchmen, one of DC Comic’s biggest events of the year, begins this Wednesday with Darwyn Cooke’s Before Watchmen: Minutemen #1. It is the first of a collection of mini-series and one-shots that will serve as a prequel to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ seminal Watchmen story.

DC revealed a TV commercial today via EW, showcasing the new series and declaring the 35 issues to be the prequel to the “best-selling graphic novel of all time”.

We approach this with trepidation, as we’ve mentioned on Behind the Panels. While the characters are scenarios might be worth exploring on some level, and the collected talent for the series is amazing, there just really isn’t any pressing need for the series either. Moore gave us all the background information we needed in his carefully detailed supporting materials interspersed throughout the original 12-issue arc.

‘Toon Tuesday: Aardman Shorts, Plastic Man and Tokyo Disneyland Anime

Saturday mornings are old school. Tuesday is all about the ‘toons, and we scour the web to find some of the latest cool toons for you to check out on a Tuesday. Take that establishment.

DC Nation posterIn addition to the Super Best Friends Forever playing with the DC Nation run of ‘toons on the CN, in between Green Lantern and Young Justice, DC will also be running a series of interstitials around Plastic Man and DC World’s Funnest from Aardman Animation. There’s also a short from Tokyo Disneyland that has been done up in anime style.

In the second Plastic Man short, the first airing earlier in the month, Plastic Man goes up against a woman of concrete villainy. This was spotted by Comics Alliance. These shorts are based on the Puddle Trouble pilot that was made all the way back in 2006, but never went to air.

Like their similar Creature Comforts, Aardman Animation has put together a series of shorts called DC World’s Funnest. Taking the voices of kids and pairing them up with cartoonish claymation versions of DC’s greatest heroes and villains, hilarity ensues. Here, Superman muses on Wonder Woman’s dress sense and the Joker gets new shoes.

While we are neither a Disney fan site nor anime specialists, it is undeniably cool. This one comes via Bleeding Cool.
