It may have been science-fiction and the rise of the atom that saw the start of the decline of the Western in the 1950s, and the birth of the blockbuster that saw the end of the pulp sci-fi invasion films a few decades later, but Paramount’s blockbuster sci-fi-Western Cowboys and Aliens looks set to bring all three together in what Spike Awards has recently voted the ‘Most Manticipated’ Film of 2011.
Based on a 2006 graphic novel created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg and written by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley, and with art by Luciano Lima, the film is set to star Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde as the folks in the old west who witness an alien spacecraft impacting the Earth. That’s right: it doesn’t get much better than Indiana Jones/Han Solo, James Bond and the ‘babe’ from TRON: Legacy going up against some aliens. Jon Favreau, director of Iron Man, is behind the camera on this one.
Paramount has sent over a clip from the recent Spike Awards, along with two brand-new international posters for the film.
