A funny thing happened on the way to Thor 2. First Alan Taylor replaced the departing Patty Jenkins on Thor 2 as director, and now Deadline reports that Saving Private Ryan scribe Robert Rodat is taking another crack at Don Payne’s script for the sequel to Thor, which Payne also penned.
The Oscar-nominated screenwriter is best known for his 1998 wartime epic for Steven Spielberg, but has more recently work with Spielberg on the small screen for his series Falling Skies. Together with Game of Thrones‘ Taylor, Thor 2 may be the greatest evidence that TV is where all the power-brokers are at the moment.
Should we be worried about the new script at this late stage in the game? Only this week, star Tom Hiddleston reported that shooting will begin in London during their summer. Then again, the change of director naturally comes with a change of direction, and Marvel Studios and Disney are naturally keen to follow what they hope will be the huge success of this year’s The Avengers with the first film in a lead-up to a second Avengers film.
Thor 2 is due to hit cinemas on 15 November 2013 from Disney.
