Warner Pushing Justice League, Writer Attached

Alex Ross - Justice League

New 52 - Justice League #1Variety reports that Warner Bros. is moving ahead with plans for their own superhero team-up movie based on their DC Comics characters. The trade states that Gangster Squad writer Will Beall is attached to the Justice League project, which was apparently commissioned last year, before the massive success of The Avengers.

Beall is attached to both Nicolas Winding Refn’s Logan’s Run and Lethal Weapon 5 for the studio, and is considered something of a “hot writer” right now. Gangster Squad is a big title for the studio this year, starring the even hotter Ryan Gosling. Beall is also know for writing TV’s Castle.

Details of this project have been kept tightly under wraps, although the bean-counters would have to be paying attention to that pile of cash Disney, Paramount and Marvel Studios have recently raked in over The Avengers, the team-up based on the Marvel comics.

It is unclear as to whether Warner will use their existing properties, including Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, in this joint venture. Next year’s Superman movie from Zack Snyder, Man of Steel, is more likely to be a jumping on point for the DC Cinematic Universe if a Marvel Studios model is followed.

The previous attempt to direct this was several years ago with George Miller, said to be ready at the time to shoot in Sydney. No director has been attached to this alleged script.
