Principal photography began in Sydney yesterday on the new feature thriller Felony, starring Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby, Animal Kingdom and the up-coming Zero Dark Thirty) and two-time Oscar nominee Tom Wilkinson (The Exotic Marigold Hotel, Michael Clayton). They are joined in the cast by acclaimed Australian actress Melissa George, lauded for her recent work on the US series In Treatment and the Australian hit drama The Slap, and up-and-coming star Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard, Spartacus).

Matthew Saville (The Slap, Noise) is directing from a script by Joel Edgerton. Producers are Rosemary Blight of Goalpost Pictures Australia, producer of the highest grossing Australian film of 2012 The Sapphires, Joel Edgerton for Blue-Tongue Films and Michael Benaroya for Benaroya Pictures.

Executive Producers are Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel, from The Solution Entertainment Group, who are representing the film internationally, and Goalpost Pictures Australia’s Ben Grant. Roadshow Films will distribute Felony in Australia and New Zealand. CAA is handling US rights.
Felony will be filmed entirely on location in and around Sydney until late December.

In the film three male detectives become embroiled in a tense struggle after a tragic accident that leaves a small child in a coma. One is guilty; one will try and cover it up, and the other attempt to expose it. The crime sends the three men on a thrilling ride where they discover that the road to forgiveness is longer and more complex than that of simple justice.

“With director Matt Saville and my producer partners Joel and Michael, we’ve assembled a stunning international cast and a highly experienced and creative Australian crew to bring Joel’s incredible script to the screen. It’s hugely exciting to have Tom Wilkinson, Melissa George and Jai Courtney join Joel with us here in Sydney for the shoot,” Rosemary Blight said.

Roadshow Films managing director Joel Pearlman said: “Joel Edgerton’s outstanding script has attracted an amazing group of people to create this film. We are delighted to be handling the distribution of this project and are looking forward to bringing it to cinema audiences in 2013.”
