The CW has revealed the new costume for Black Canary for the sixth season of ARROW, set to return to screens on 12 October this year. The suit is designed by Maya Mani, and is the latest in a long line of canaries and costumes.
Speaking with EW, Executive Producer Wendy Mericle spoke about the design process and the timing of the release:
“It felt that we wanted to save it for a special occasion, and the premiere seemed like a really good place to do it. She needs something tactical. She has this meta power, but she also has the bo staff, so we just felt it was right for her to have something that was definitely more than a nod to the DCU character, but also something that was distinctive from what we’ve seen before. This really fits the bill. Maya Mani, as usual, did an amazing job with it. My favorite part is actually the subtle hint of the gold and yellow lines in it.”
Juliana Harkavy was introduced as Dinah Drake in Season 5, and this year she appears set to make her full debut as the Black Canary. Comic book fans will know that the original Black Canary was introduced in the Golden Age as Dinah Drake, with various incarnations since being Earth-2 variants and rock stars.
