Official trailer for ‘The Shallows’ starring Blake Lively

The Shallows - Blake Lively

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the cinema. Sony Pictures Releasing has sent over the official trailer for THE SHALLOWS, a new shark survival movie from Orphan and Unknown director Jaume Collet-Serra. It hits Australian cinemas on 18 August, after debuting in the US on July 29.

Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, when she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark.  Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy’s ingenuity, resourcefulness, and fortitude. The studio is describing it as “Jaws for a new generation,” but we’re secretly hoping it’s Jaws 4: The Revenge and Blake Lively is the Michael Caine of her generation.

Australians have a connection to this film, and not just because of the proliferation of shark attacks here either. Principal photography took place in New South Wales and Lord Howe Island late last year. The film also stars Óscar Jaenada (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Brett Cullen (TV’s Under the Dome) and Sedona Legge.
