This news follows previous series director Guillermo del Toro announcing that there wouldn’t be a third film, even with Ron Perlman’s repeated enthusiastic to reprise the role. THR adds that the working title for the film is HELLBOY: RISE OF THE BLOOD QUEEN, presumably based on the character introduced back in 2008’s The Wild Hunt. They add that the script will be written by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Mignola.

First appearing in comic book form in 1993, the Dark Horse Comics character was first adapted in the 2004 del Toro live action film Hellboy, and had a 2008 sequel, Hellboy: The Golden Army. There have also been two Hellboy Animated direct-to-DVD films, Sword of Storms and Blood and Iron, in which star Perlman returned to voice the character.
