Sony are developing their own Spider-Verse of sorts, beginning with the Venom film announced earlier this week. Now The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love and Basketball, The Secret Life of Bees) will direct SILVER AND BLACK, a film focused on Silver Sable and Black Cat.
Chris Yost (Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok) will script the film based on a draft by Westworld‘s Lisa-Joy Nolan, produced by Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal.
The characters have been around for decades, flirting with both sides of the moral fence. Like Venom, whose more recent comic book appearances have seen him fighting on the side of good alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy, Sony’s new approach appears to be favouring the anti-hero characters. After all, it’s a tactic that worked for Suicide Squad.
As with Venom, SILVER AND BLACK will not be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Spider-Man, but rather standalone as Sony’s own thing.
