‘Sweet Country’: Trailer and poster for Warwick Thornton’s outback western

The highly anticipated trailer and poster for SWEET COUNTRY has arrived from Transmission Films, showcasing Warwick Thornton’s film following its debut to a standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival.

Inspired by real events, SWEET COUNTRY is a period western set in 1929 in the outback of the Northern Territory, Australia. Directed by Warwick Thornton, recipient of the Camera d’Or at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival for his debut feature Samson and DelilahSWEET COUNTRYstars Hamilton Morris, Bryan Brown, Thomas M. Wright, Ewen Leslie, Anni Finsterer, Matt Day and Sam Neill, and introduces Gibson John, Natassia Gorey- Furber, Tremayne Doolan and Trevon Doolan.

The film will now travel to Canada; where it is set to close Toronto International Film Festival’s competitive Platform section, and the UK; screening In Competition at BFI London Film Festival. It makes its Australian debut at the Adelaide Film Festival in October.

Thornton also released a documentary this year, We Don’t Need a Map, exploring Australia’s difficult history with symbolism and race.

SWEET COUNTRY will release nationally in 2018 from Transmission Films, and if this sweeping trailer is anything to go by, it will be scooping up audiences and awards in its wake.
