Ozzies 2018: Nominations announced for inaugural Ozflix awards

Sweet Country (Transmission Films)

Ozflix Independent Film AwardsNominations Announced for the inaugural Ozflix Independent Film Awards (the “Ozzies”) which will take place this coming Saturday 7 April 2018 at The Alex Theatre, St Kilda, in Melbourne.

Presented by Ozflix and held to celebrate the achievements of independent Australian films, made for a budget of $5 million or less – representative of the bulk of films produced by the local industry – this on-going, national event will recognise the outstanding efforts of the many skilled and talented practitioners who work within this sector, whether on-screen or behind-the-scenes.

Unsurprisingly, the monumental SWEET COUNTRY leads the pack with 11 nominations across various categories. The controversial HOUNDS OF LOVE garnered 7 nominations, while THE BUTTERFLY TREE earns 5 nods. One of our favourites from 2017, THAT’S NOT ME, scored 3 nominations as well.

There will also be a Special Jury Prize for Emerging Performer, to be jointly sponsored by PTB Screen and Star Now, which will carry a cash prize of $1,000, along with a Life Achievement Award, to be sponsored by NFSA.
