‘Top End Wedding’: cast expands for Wayne Blair’s new Australian film

Top End Wedding - Miranda Tapsell

Australian cinema loves its nuptials, whether its Muriel’s Wedding, Ali’s Wedding, or just A Few Best Men. Now we can add a TOP END WEDDING to that increasingly long list of events that we have to choose an outfit for.

Entertainment One (eOne), Goalpost Pictures Australia, Screen Australia, the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and The Northern Territory Government announced today that TOP END WEDDING, a new feature film co-written by and starring Miranda Tapsell is set to go into production mid-April in Adelaide and then across the Northern Territory.

Co-written by Joshua Tyler (Plonk) and directed by Wayne Blair, TOP END WEDDING tells the story of successful Sydney lawyer Lauren (Miranda Tapsell)  and her fiancée Ned (Gwilym Lee) who have just 10 days to find Lauren’s mother who has gone AWOL somewhere in the Northern Territory. They must reunite Lauren’s parents and pull off their dream Top End Wedding.

Sounding like it might also double as a tourism campaign for the NT, shooting will take place across Darwin, Katherine, Kakadu and the Tiwi Islands. However, will it be as wonderfully clever as the genius parody campaign CU in the NT

Fans of Australian cinema will note that this reunites many of the key players from the production of The Sapphires, including director Blair’s star Shari Sebbens (Thor: RagnarokRedfern Now) and and producers Rosemary Blight and Kylie du Fresne for Goalpost.

Other cast members include  AACTA Award nominee Kerry Fox (Bright Star,Cloud Street), Ursula Yovich (The CodeAround The BlockAustralia), Huw Higginson (Janet King, A Place To Call HomeThe Bill) and Elaine Crombie (Top of The LakeRedfern NowBlack Comedy).

Additional producers include Kojo Entertainment’s Kate Croser with executive producers Glen Condie and Ben Grant. TOP END WEDDING has been financed by Screen Australia with support from The Northern Territory Government and the South Australian Film Corporation. Post production will be completed in South Australia. It will be released in Australia and New Zealand by Entertainment One (eOne) and is being sold worldwide by Berlin-based Films Boutique.
