CineAsia releases ‘iPartment’ in Australia/NZ in August, reveals teaser trailer

iPartment

CineAsia Australia has released the teaser trailer for iPARTMENT (爱情公寓), the feature-length version of the popular Chinese Mainland sitcom. It hits Australian and New Zealand cinemas from 16 August 2018.

Based on the popular Chinese series that first aired in August 2009, follows the romantic trials and tribulations of a group of 20-somethings living in an apartment building. The series was shot in a cinematic style, often employing CGI and other effects in its genre-blending. The film represents a 10th anniversary reunion of most of the cast.

The show has often been criticised for…er…”borrowing” plotlines and devices from US sitcoms like Friends and How I Met Your Mother. If by “borrowing” we mean taking them and using them wholesale. Series star Eric Wang, who is not returning for the film, recently labelled the show as “full of advertisements. It was all product placements.”

Directed by Frank Wei and written by series co-creator Yuan Wang, and starring Chen He, Lou Yi-xiao, and Sun Yi-zhou, you can check out the trailer below.
