New Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy posters scan Colin Firth and Tom Hardy

Universal has released two new posters from the forthcoming thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, this time featuring Tom Hardy and Colin Firth.

Using the same digital coding imagery as the first poster of  Gary Oldman, these are incredibly cool posters. The film is based on the John Le Carre novel of the same name, last filmed in 1979 as a TV mini-series with Alec Guinness. Set during the height of this Cold War, Gary Oldman will take on the role of George Smiley, who comes out of semi-retirement to hunt down a Russian agent.

And just to put the three of them together, here’s the original Gary Oldman poster:

  • Cool Cowboys and Aliens poster from Hopko Designs

Cool Cowboys and Aliens poster from Hopko Designs

We normally don’t post “fan” artwork on here, but we have to admit that this is pretty cool. Scott Hopko of Hopko Designs  sent us over this artwork for Cowboys and Aliens that he has mocked up. Jon Favreau is currently using it as his Twitter avatar, so we like to think it has “official approval” of sorts.

The artwork perfectly captures the cool retro vibe of the film, and is a throwback to the 1950s sci-fi/Westerns that the film is clearly inspired by. The film itself has been receiving a critical panning, but we loved it. It is nice to see that others have been similarly inspired to create such groovy artwork as a result.

You can find more of Hopko’s movie posters over at his Facebook page, and their design work at his website. There’s some more cool art for classic and contemporary films.

Cowboys and Aliens is released on 18 August 2011 in Australia from Paramount.

  • New UK posters for Rise of the Planet of the Apes

New UK posters for Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Rise of the Planet of the Apes took us by surprise with its brilliance earlier in the month, and its success in the US and Australian box offices has been a comforting sign of good taste everywhere. It’s release this week in the UK has prompted the release of two timely posters, via Empire Online, that give a kind of Banksy vibe to the promotion.

With the trouble on the streets across Britain at the moment, we’re not entirely sure that these are appropriate, but as the troubles are (hopefully) subsiding, perhaps these will encourage people to embrace the collective experience of the cinema.

  • New international poster for ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’

New international poster for ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’

Yet another poster for the forthcoming The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn has been unveiled from Paramount, with the promise of this being the final one before release.

Our excitement levels are definitely starting to grow on this one, from the humble origins to the film to the amazing pedigree of Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson and writers Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) and Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World) & Joe Cornish (Attack the Block). From the footage we’ve seen so far, it could be something special. Guess we’ll find out in December…

  • Bits Watch: ‘Battleship’ gets a trailer and poster

Bits Watch: ‘Battleship’ gets a trailer and poster

Stick this in the ‘WTF?’ files. We were as baffled as everybody else at the announcement of the adaptation of the Milton Bradley board game Battleship into a major motion picture from Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Hancock). Now Universal has released a trailer and poster for the film, and we are as surprised as anybody at the direction it has taken.

Is it a Michael Bay-style war film? A Michael Bay-style alien invasion film? It could literally go anywhere!

All we need now is those Ouija and Ridley Scott’s Monopoly trailers.

  • New trailer and poster for Kevin Smith’s ‘Red State’

New trailer and poster for Kevin Smith’s ‘Red State’

It has only been a few weeks since we announced that Kevin Smith‘s controversial horror film Red State would be making its way to Australia in September, and that the man himself would be accompanying the film on a short tour. Now thanks to SlashFilm, we can have a look at the brand new trailer and poster for the film as well.

The trailer may be considered not safe for work, so ye have been warned. This is a definite, and welcome, change of direction for the Clerks and Chasing Amy director, whose last few films (read: Cop Out) have failed to make the impact of his earlier work. As John Goodman’s character notes in the trailer below, “Simple just shit itself”.

  • New images and trailer from ‘Chalet Girl’

New images and trailer from ‘Chalet Girl’

Paramount has released a selection of new images from the forthcoming Chalet Girl, a new British comedy starring Felicity Jones, Ed Westwick, Bill Nighy and Brooke Shields.

Pretty tomboy Kim Matthews (Felicity Jones, S.Darko), 19, used to be a champion skateboarder – but now she’s stuck in a dead end job trying to support her Dad. Opportunity comes knocking in the form of a catering job in the one of the most exclusive chalets in the Alps. At first, Kim’s baffled by this bizarre new world of posh people, champagne and skiing – but then she discovers snowboarding, and the chance to win some much-needed prize money at the big end-of-season competition. But before she can become a champion again, Kim’s going to have to dig deep to overcome her fears. Hard enough, without the complicating factor of Jonny (Ed Westwick, Gossip Girl), her handsome – though spoken for – boss…

UPDATE: We have added the Australian trailer and one-sheet poster.

First Look: ‘The Amazing Spider-man’ Poster

Following hot on the heels of the teaser trailer released yesterday, Sony (via EmpireOnline and IMPAwards) have released a brand new teaser poster for The Amazing Spider-man.

It bears a striking resemblance to the poster for Spider-man 3, albeit flipping the logo to the one on Peter’s back rather than his chest, but offers the same iconic and instantly recognisable motif that screams “Summer blockbuster”. Or in our case, “Winter blockbuster”. Less than a year to go now until Spidey swings his way into cinemas for another reboot!
