‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ first behind the scenes footage, character posters

Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Studios have released the first behind-the-scenes reel from STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI. The footage comes directly from the D23 Expo.

Featuring almost all of the principal cast and crew, Rian Johnson and the stars of Star Wars guide us through the thematic changes for the upcoming sequel. While we don’t get much in the way of actual footage from the film, we get a metric tonne of new creatures, ship models, and interviews.

Perhaps the most touching of these is the footage of the late Carrie Fisher, reminding us that the film is still about family after all these years.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is in Australian cinemas on 14 December 2017 from Disney.

D23: Pixar announces new film set in a ‘suburban fantasy world’

The D23 Disney Animation panel, held today on 14 July 2017, announced THE UNTITLED PIXAR FILM THAT TAKES YOU INTO A SUBURBAN FANTASY WORLD.

The film will be from the creative forces of Dan Scanlon, co-writer and director on Monsters University. It is said to be a particularly personal film for Scanlon, who lost his father when he was one year old. “I have always wondered who my father was and how I’m like him,” said Scanlon. As such, the film follows two brothers who are on a quest to learn more about their father.

The concept is around a suburban world where humans don’t exist, and magic has been the dominant force that shaped society. Scanlon described the film as containing elves, sprites, trolls and “anything that would be on the side of a van in the 70s.” Unicorns, for example, are said to be so common that they’re considered pests.

No release date has been indicated yet.

‘Toy Story 4’: D23 reveals first details, director

The D23 Disney Animation panel, held today on 14 July 2017, revealed the first concrete details from TOY STORY 4, including confirmation that Josh Cooley will be the director for the project, and produced by Jonas Rivera.

Cooley had previously directed the Inside Out short, Riley’s First Date. He has been working with Disney•Pixar since 2003, including his first feature work as a storyboard artist on The Incredibles.

It had previously been reported that John Lassester would be at least co-directing the next chapter of the Toy Story saga, but the panel confirmed that Cooley would be the sole director on the project.

The panel indicated that they are about to record the first line of dialogue for the film with an actor that has been in all of the Toy Story films. It was, of course, Pixar’s Jeff Pidgeon inhaling helium and saying “ooooh” for a familiar Pizza Planet alien creature.

It is due out on 20 June 2019 from Disney.

  • D23: Disneytoon Studios announces Cars Universe ‘Space’ film for April 2019

D23: Disneytoon Studios announces Cars Universe ‘Space’ film for April 2019

The D23 Disney Animation panel, held today on 14 July 2017, revealed the first details of an upcoming film tentatively titled SPACE. It is due for release in the 12 April 2019, a date that Disneytoon Studios had already pegged for an untitled film.

The footage shown to the audience was described (by SuperHeroHype who provided the image above) as showing photo-real wreckage of an old plane in the desert, followed by several racing jets, shooting off through the atmosphere.

While the footage was described as ‘photo real,’ the jets were said to open their eyes, indicating that this is part of the same universe that the Cars and Planes films took place it.

The title SPACE appeared on screen, but it was quickly modified with “this SPACE will be filled with a title when we think of one.” Animation head John Lassetter had already indicated that there would be several clips shown that were so new, none of them had titles yet.

We’ll be following this one as it develops.

  • Bruce Boxleitner says Tron 3 is a “done deal”

Bruce Boxleitner says Tron 3 is a “done deal”

DeskofBrian has posted a fan video with Bruce Boxleitner, star of the original TRON and TRON: Legacy, indicating that there will be a third TRON film in 2013.

Shot at Disney’s D23 Expo last week, Boxleitner expresses his excitement in seeing TRON back on the big screen. When asked if he would saddled up for a third installment, he casually adds that it is a “done deal”.

Boxleitner adds: “It’s already in the works, my friend…2013 I think…it takes a long time to make these things”.

Is Boxleitner simply being flippant? The film made over $400 million at the global box office, so it isn’t inconceivable that Disney has already green-lit a new TRON film. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

D23 Expo: The Avengers Cast assemble backstage

The principle cast of The Avengers have assembled for a photo opportunity at Disney’s D23 Expo in California. Marvel has released this historic snap.

None of the cast are in costume, of course, except for Robert Downey Jr, who actually is Tony Stark.

Left to right, the photo depicts Walt Disney Studios Chairman Rich Boss, actors Scarlet Johannson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Cobie Smoulders (S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Maria Hill), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige and President of Marketing Walt Disney Studios MT Carney.

  • Wreck-It-Ralph: Disney reveals title logo

    Wreck-It-Ralph: Disney reveals title logo

Disney revealed the title logo for their forthcoming film Wreck-It-Ralph. The film is the story of an arcade game Bad Guy, Wreck-It-Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) determined to prove he can be as good a Good Guy as Fix-It-Felix (voiced by Jack McBrayer).

Details of the film are still scarce, although we know it will be directed by Rich Moore (The Simpsons, Futurama) and also feature the voice talents of Sarah Silverman and Jane Lynch.

The logo was revealed at the D23 Expo today, and later in a higher-res version on the Disney Animation Twitter. Take a look:

We are loving the retro vibe on this thing, reminiscent of  the aesthetic of the recent hyper-kinetic Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. It could be the comedy smash that Disney have been looking for the last few years. The Princess and the Frog and Tangled went a long way towards restoring Disney’s storytelling dominance, and we look forward to whatever this brings.

Wreck-It-Ralph will be released on 2 November 2012 in the US from Disney.

  • D23 Expo: Disney-Pixar announces 2 new films, poster for ‘Tangled Ever After’

D23 Expo: Disney-Pixar announces 2 new films, poster for ‘Tangled Ever After’

A big day of news at the D23 Expo as Disney-Pixar announced details on two forthcoming feature films.

The first of these, presented cheekily as The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs, proposes that the evolution-changing asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs actually missed the Earth, and dinosaurs still exist and continue to evolve. Directed by Bob Peterson (Up), the film is due for a release in the holiday season of 2013.

The summer 2014 film, using the working title of The Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside The Mind, was thinner on plot details, but it was hinted that Pete Docter (Up, Monsters Inc) would be involved. This is undoubtedly the mystery Pixar film the studio announced for May 30, 2014 in a press release earlier this month.

The next film from the studio will be Brave (22 June 2012), followed by the Monsters Inc. prequel Monsters University (21 June 2013).

    Tangled Ever After

In other news, Disney also revealed the poster for the upcoming Tangled Ever After,  a short film from Tangled directors  Nathan  Greno and Byron Howard. Plot details were scarce, but the US should see this one on the Disney Channel in “Spring 2012” (Source: /Film). That’s the second quater for those of us in the southern hemisphere.
