Iron Man 3 Concept Art Revealed

Last month, the first official photo from the set of Iron Man 3 was revealed, and now Marvel has released the first concept art from the film by artist Ryan Meinerding. An imperilled Tony Stark appears to be mid-transformation into Iron Man, seemingly without the aid of bracelets or briefcases. This might be the strongest indication to date that the film will be taking elements from the Iron Man: Extremis storyline, in which Stark uses nanotechnology to literally store the suit within his body. Could this be Iron Man Armour Mark VIII? Or it could just be a really cool picture. Iron Man 3 is scheduled for 3 May 2013, and is currently filming.

Details on Marvel’s Item 47 One Shot Revealed

Set to appear on The Avengers Blu-ray and DVD, out August 29 in Australia and September 25 in the US, EW has revealed details on Marvel’s latest One-Shot short film, a series of shorts that have appeared on the home releases and expanded the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Previous shorts have included The Consultant and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer. This latest chapter is said to be the longest and most ambitious, with a full description over at EW. They’ve also revealed the first image from the short:

Lizzy Caplan (Party Down, pictured) and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers) star as a down-on-their-luck couple who find one of the discarded alien guns from the finale to The Avengers — and proceed to make some incredibly bad decisions.

This is the longest, most elaborate of the Marvel shorts so far, and could be a first step toward using short-subject films to dive deeper into the Marvel universe and introduce beloved but less-familiar superheroes to the mainstream.

Item 47 refers to the gun itself, which S.H.I.E.L.D. would like very much to retrieve from the hapless young troublemakers. “The world is topsy-turvy now. There’s been an alien invasion, and things are crazy,” explains Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito, who directed the film himself. “So when this gun literally fell into their lap, this is a sign: We’re going to rob a few banks, we’re going to buy a boat, we’re going to the Caribbean, and all our problems will be solved.”

Two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (Maximiliano Hernández, returning from Thor and The Avengers, and Lost’s Man in Black Titus Welliver, making his Marvel debut) are given the job of cleaning up the mess and stopping this modern Bonnie and Clyde (not coincidentally named Benny and Claire).

  • New Lizard Poster for The Amazing Spider-man, Opens at $50 Million Overseas

New Lizard Poster for The Amazing Spider-man, Opens at $50 Million Overseas

The Amazing Spider-man has opened internationally, and hits Queensland and Northern Territory cinemas today, with the US on Tuesday and the rest of Australia to follow on Wednesday. Just in time for that convoluted release pattern comes a new poster featuring the eye of the lizard. It’s the cream of the fight, rising up to the challenge of his rival, Spider-man.

Is it just us, or does this remind you of that Godzilla poster from circa 1998? Will the Lizard be destroying our cities? One thing is for sure, it has already sent people running in the direction of cinemas.

According to ComingSoon’s Box Office Report, the film

…launched internationally in 13 Asian markets and brought in $50.2 million with Korea scoring $13.4 million on 1,213 screens, the third-highest opening for a Hollywood movie behind the last two “Transformers” movies; it opened 24% higher than Spider-Man 3 and 10% higher than The Avengers. Japan claimed $11.4 million on 1,092 screens, 84% of that country’s weekend box office. The other Asian countries including India–where it set a new opening record for a Hollywood film with just $6 million–the Phillippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong and more also showed huge openings on par with other major blockbusters.

In June, the traditional midway point of the year, we’ve got twenty outstanding front bits to our favourite form of graphic storytelling fun. • First Look at Disney’s Short Film Paperman

First Look at Disney’s Short Film Paperman

Paperman - DisneyEW has posted an excellent and extensive coverage of the new Disney short film Paperman, the groundbreaking 2D/3D hybrid short that will play in front of their forthcoming Wreck-It Ralph. It is terrific to see Disney’s commitment to bringing back the short film in front of their features.

Here’s the film’s synopsis: Using a minimalist black-and-white style, the short follows the story of a lonely young man in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from his office. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to get her attention, his efforts are no match for what fate has in store for him.

Paperman is directed by John Kahrs. It is his directorial debut, but he has been working with WDAS since 2007. The hybrid short was created by 2D and CG artists who used a proprietary program called Meander. Employing a technique called “final line advection”, artists were able to add a level of grace and expressiveness never before seen in an animated film.

Wreck-It Ralph is released in the US on 2 November 2012, and in Australia on 26 December 2012 from Disney.

New IMAX Poster and Featurette for The Amazing Spider-man

iTunes Trailers and MTV respectively have revealed a new featurette and IMAX poster for next week’s The Amazing Spider-man.

The poster is a very stylised affair, in stark contrast to the heavily PhotoShopped renditions of Peter and Gwen that have graced the previous one-sheets. The featurette looks at the updates to Spider-man’s suit, and how the team and actors went about creating something believable to this spider-world.

The Amazing Spider-man is released in Australia on 4 July 2012 (2 July QLD & NT) from Sony.

It’s less than a month until The Dark Knight Rises hits cinemas, and SuperHeroHype has revealed new elements from the film’s viral campaign via DewGothamCity and rykindata.com. The latter can be found by following a link in one of the newspaper ads below.

The bits and pieces of information in the newspaper provide vital clues to the plot of the upcoming film, and we reckon you should pay particular attention to the horoscopes below. The horoscopes for Pisces and Virgo seem to have the most information there, although Aquarius is just trying to get us to buy the new Mtn Dew. Our stars say we will receive an impressive financial windfall. Here’s hoping it all comes true.

Some are already predicting the ‘R’ in Rykin is a clue to a potential inclusion of Robin. Guess we’ll know in a month’s time.

  • Stunning Prometheus Poster from Hopko Designs

Stunning Prometheus Poster from Hopko Designs

Our good friends at Hopko Designs have sent us their latest creation, a poster for Ridley’s Scott epic sci-fi film Prometheus.

Scott Hopko let us know that he “can’t stop thinking about the movie”, and seems to have been inspired by the religious aspects of the film. While they aren’t overt in Damon Lindeloff’s script, Scott and other members of the cast have certainly been referencing that in recent interviews. Casting Noomi Rapace as Mary, with the whole world literally in her hands, speaks volumes about some of the themes that people will be discussing about this film for some time to come.
