US poster and Teaser for The Loved Ones

It debuted all the way back in September 2009 in Toronto, but Australia’s The Loved Ones is finally getting a limited national release in the US thanks to TUGG. Now Rama’s Screen has revealed the US poster and teaser trailer for the dark-horror-comedy, along with details on how you can get this terrific film into theatres.

In rural Victoria, Brent (Xavier Samuel) is slowly getting over the death of his father, killed while Brent  was driving. Asked to the school dance by the ‘quiet one’ in the school, Lola (Rebecca McLeavy), he turns her down as he already has a loving girlfriend Holly (Victoria Thaine). However, Lola has other plans for the dance. She has been preparing for this for quite some time, and the little matter of Brent’s lack of enthusiasm isn’t going to dampen hers.

When we reviewed the film in July 2010, we said it was “Australian horror at its most fun, filled with the kind of over the top splatter that horror fans will flock to”. While it failed to find a huge audience here, it is the kind of film that should have a massive cult following around the world.

If you live in the US, visit TUGG.com to find out how to bring The Loved Ones to a theatre near you in June.

  • New Poster Offers Two Good Reasons To See Dark Tide

New Poster Offers Two Good Reasons To See Dark Tide

The universe clearly came to the decision that we were low on shark movies, with The Reef, Dinoshark, Shark Night 3D having just swum off and shark-in-a-supermarket Bait due in cinemas this year. So into this crowded market comes Dark Tide, a movie about a woman overcoming a near-fatal shark attack, but ultimately ends up swimming with sharks.

Now Yahoo! Movies gives us a poster with two very good reasons to see the film. Did you see that shark fin lurking in the water? Neither did we. You know who else didn’t see it? Everybody.

Courage may not be the only thing running deep on the poster, but actor/director John Stockwell is responsible for Blue Crush and Into The Blue, another fact that was on the poster and we didn’t see for some reason.

Dark Tide is released in the US on 30 March 2012 from Wrekin Hill Entertainment. Australian date is TBA.

New John Carter IMAX Poster and Featurette Reveals Footage

Walt Disney Pictures (via ComingSoon.Net) has released a new featurette for John Carter, featuring new footage from the forthcoming film.

From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes John Carter – a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). John Carter is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet.

John Carter is due in cinemas on 8 March 2012 in Australia and 9 March 2012 in the US from Disney.

  • US poster for Zhang Yimou’s Flowers of War

US poster for Zhang Yimou’s Flowers of War

A new US poster has emerged for Zhang Yimou’s The Flowers of War on iTunes Trailers, his latest film starring Christian Bale, Ni Ni, Zhang Xinyi, Huang Tianyuan, Tong Dawei, Atsuro Watabe, Shigeo Kobayashi and Cao Kefan. The poster certainly is eye-catching, but for our money we prefer the minimalist design of the earlier poster, included below.

Synopsis: Director Zhang Yimou (Raise the Red Lantern, Ju Dou, Hero, House of the Flying Daggers) tells an epic story of love and sacrifice in The Flowers of War, starring Christian Bale and introducing Ni Ni. The film, set during Japan’s 1937 invasion of China, is told from a young girl’s point of view, not as a history lesson, but as an intimate, elemental and paradoxically universal celebration of the human spirit. Bale stars as a dissolute Westerner who seeks refuge in a Catholic church. There he meets a beautiful Chinese courtesan who helps him rescue a group of schoolgirls from a terrible fate at the hands of the Japanese.

The Flowers of War is released in the US on 20 January 2012. No Australian release date has been set.

  • First poster for Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy features Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman

First poster for Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy features Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman

IMPAwards (via The Film Stage) has revealed a new poster for Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy, which as the poster below points out is an adaptation of Pete Dexter’s novel. Yes, it’s a few days old, but we thought it was worth sharing.

The pedigree on this film is pretty strong. Daniels’ last film was 2009’s Oscar-winning Precious, while Dexter is also responsible for penning the book that inspired the HBO series Deadwood. The cast of Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack and David Oyelowo doesn’t hurt either.

The official synopsis reads: A directionless young man helps his reporter brother investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a man on death row, and in the process, falls for the woman whom the convict has been romancing through prison correspondence.

The Paperboy is due out in 2012.

  • The Amazing Spider-man poster tells the untold story

The Amazing Spider-man poster tells the untold story

SuperHeroHype has revealed the brand new poster from Columbia Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-man, the reboot to the Spider-man franchise starring Andrew Garfield as the titular hero.

The poster features young Peter Parker (Garfield) straddling a wall, with his shadow casting an eight legged spider. You can probably see that for yourself below. “The Untold Story” slogan is definitely signal that this will be taking us back to beginning and tinkering with the origin story a little bit, and perhaps this is a wise course of action. It has only been less than a decade since the last time we saw Peter Parker’s birth as a hero.

Directed by the appropriately named Marc Webb,  film also stars Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen and Sally Field.

The Amazing Spider-man is released on 3 July 2012 in the US and 4 July 2012 in Australia from Sony.
