  • Mondo Poster for The Dark Knight Rises by Jock

Mondo Poster for The Dark Knight Rises by Jock

The good people at Mondo have teamed up with British artist Jock, best known for his work on 2000 AD, The Losers and Green Arrow: Year One.

Jock contributed concept paintings to Batman Begins (2005), and now as the trilogy reaches its end, the artist has rendered this new poster for The Dark Knight Rises, filled with thousands of tiny bits of bat goodness that recalls a classic scene from that first film. This poster is available exclusively to people who visit the Mondo booth at San Diego Comic-Con. As usual, follow @mondonews on Twitter for the exact sale time.

The Dark Knight Rises is released on 19 July 2012 in Australia from Roadshow.

  • Giant Banner for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Giant Banner for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

EW has revealed a massive new banner for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, highlighting a whole series of scenes from the classic J.R.R. Tolkien tale.

What most have picked up on is the penultimate panel featuring Beorn, the woodsman who has the ability to turn into a bear. Here he seems to be deep into conversation with Gandalf. We also get an idea of how much of The Hobbit will be covered in the first film, with The Hobbit: There and Back Again being the second half of Peter Jackson’s new set of films. From this point forward, this may be our most anticipated film of the year.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released on 26 December 2012 in Australia from Roadshow. The film will debut in the US on 14 December 2012.

It may look really tiny, but click the image below to enlarge (It’s actually HUGE!)

  • Poster Revealed for 7th Possible Worlds Canadian Film Festival

Poster Revealed for 7th Possible Worlds Canadian Film Festival

The full program launched last week for Possible Worlds, the 7th Canadian Film Festival in Australia. Now thanks to the official site, we have been given a first look at their festival poster.

With the tagline “It ain’t Hollywood!”, a white clad animal person emerges from a phone booth, the glasses from his secret identity sitting idly on the footpath. The poster was designed by Alexandra De Bonis and photographed by Matthew Lahoud. The site also reliably informs us that the model is the festival’s marketing and sponsorship manager Nick Jarvis. So his secret is actually out, exposing him to all manner of attacks from his enemies and ill-wishers. Stay the course, you shiny white knight of quality cinema!

The Festival will showcase 20 of the best new Canadian feature films at Dendy Opera Quays and Dendy Newtown from 13th to 19th August 2012. Selected titles will also screen at the University of Wollongong and the ARC cinema in Canberra.

  • New Poster and Banner for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim

New Poster and Banner for Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim

Of the 743 registered projects that have Guillermo del Toro attached to them, the one to watch is undoubtedly Pacific Rim. All you need to know is giant monsters versus giant robots. It all sounds a bit Evangelion to us, but it should be cool nonetheless. The film’s official Facebook page has revealed a new banner and poster for the film, the latter exclusively available at San Diego Comic-Con.

The poster is a minimal affair, but it gives us a hint of the scale of the giant robots that will be seen in the film.

Pacific Rim is released on 10 May 2013 in the US, and in Australia on 11 July 2013 from Roadshow.

  • Mondo Unveils Posters for King Kong, Iron Giant and Lord of the Rings

Mondo Unveils Posters for King Kong, Iron Giant and Lord of the Rings

Mondo, the collectible art boutique arm of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, has unveiled no less than six new posters for three classic films.

Laurent Durieux is behind both posters for King Kong and the one-sheet for The Iron Giant. These beautiful pieces of artwork evoke the wonder these films held when they were first released. They are also really cool.

The second image from The Iron Giant is actually for a jointed figure by Kevin Tong. Mondo claims that “There are 9 points of articulation and it will come pre-packaged and ship flat”.

Finally, Mondo has announced that they have a licence for Lord of the Rings posters, starting with Aaron Horkey’s poster (and variant) for The Return of the King.

  • New Dredd Motion Poster Passes Sentence

New Dredd Motion Poster Passes Sentence

Dredd, the latest adaptation of the 2000 AD comic featuring the badass to beat all badasses, will be taking Judge Dredd to San Diego Comic Con next week. To celebrate, this new motion poster has been released (via Bleeding Cool).

The motion is simplicity itself, but is quintessential Dredd. After the trailer dropped last month, we all agreed itlooks damn cool, with Karl Urban capturing everyone’s favourite gravelly Judge, albeit slightly reminiscent of The Raid. Mind you, anybody could be under than helmet. Even you. Is it you? It’s you isn’t it?

This is quietly shaping up to be one of the bigger geek events of the year. While the fan-base may not be as huge as The Dark Knight Rises, the 2000 AD fans are incredibly dedicated.

Dredd is released in Australia on 25 October 2012 from Icon. It comes to UK screens on 7 September.

  • Beautiful Poster for Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful

Beautiful Poster for Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful

Disney (via IMPAwards) has released the first poster for Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful, due out on 8 March 2013 in the US.

The beautiful painted poster evokes an instant sense of nostalgia and the familiar, with the Yellow Brick Road, rolling green hills and even the twister conjuring up memories of the 1939 classic film. The main character is the smallest element on the poster, rightly labelled a teaser, for it is not yet known what his role in this brave new world will be.

Synopsis: Disney’s fantastical adventure Oz The Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.
